Winter lynx and wolf watching short break
difficulty grade: C - click here for explanations
available November-early December, end of January-April
4-days wildlife watching in Brasov area, Transylvania, Romania:
lynx watching, wolf watching, hiking in the Carpathians.
Through
time, one of the most important ways to survive was camouflage. Lynx is
still one of the best camouflaged mammals, which makes it very
difficult to see in its natural habitat. Wolves are also very shy
animals due to the numerous persecutions from people. This trip gives you the opportunity to
watch both lynx and wolves in their natural habitat, at safe distance to
minimise the negative impact of our activities on these magnificent carnivores.
for environmental reasons the size of the group is 2-6 persons
Day 1
Transfer to our 2* guesthouse (optional 1* or 3*guesthouse) with
en-suite facilities in Zarnesti.
Day 2-3
We
leave early in the morning (about 5.30am) to watch lynx or wolves.
Together with the wildlife researcher we will walk slowly on one of the
numerous valleys teeming with wildlife looking for lynx and wolves. The
early departure is to enable us to track the animals before they go to
sleep.
As
extra activities, during day-time you can do some hiking and wildlife
tracking, visit some of the local historical places
(e.g. Bran Castle, Peles Castle or the medieval town of Brasov), go by
horse drawn sledge/cart on one of the beautiful valleys close-by, hike or just relax in the garden with a glass of
home-made bilberry liquor or plum brandy, or the local “bear
beer”.
In
the afternoon, after a delicious lunch we drive and hike to special
places in order to see lynx and wolves in their natural habitat. The
chances are quite high (about 60% for both lynx and wolves), as the
researchers know the perfect spots for wildlife watching. Late in the
evening (about 10pm) we return to the guesthouse for a good night
sleep.
Day 4
Transfer back to the airport.
